5 Course Martell Whiskey & Champagne Pairing at Indigo Restaurant

Only a handful restaurant in Penang managed to capture our heart which I always find it a pity since Penang is renown for its delicious street food.

Upon knowing one of our favourite restaurant, Indigo at Blue Mansion is organizing a Martell Whiskey pairing dinner, a same day Subang to Penang flight ticket was booked just for this dinner.

Martell Whiskey Pairing Dinner at Indigo, Blue Mansion

Started off with a Perrier Jouet Grand Brut Champagne, a light and subtle bubbly with a nice hint floral & fruitty fragrances.

First – Hokkaido Scallop, Ark Shell, Geoduck, Caviar, Sea urchin & assorted sea vegetables
Pair : Perrier Jouet Grand Brut Champagne

Second – Crab Bisque of Alaskan King Crab, Crumbled Oyster, Pumpkin & Cardamom cram
Pair : Martell XO

I never got disappointed with the bisque at Indigo be it lobster or crab bisque as it is always packed  in flavour of either ingredient. The whole chunk of Alaskan King Crab was definitely satisfying.

Third – Braised Abalone with Foie Gras, Roast Duck & essence of Cognac
Pair : Martell Cordon Bleu

The braised abalone was awesomely tender & flavourful, an unsual surprise for a European cuisine restaurant to execute such a fine chinese cuisine while the creamy foie gras is another favourite to die for especially when paired with Martell Cordon Bleu.

Fourth – Braised Black Angus Short Rib with Lobster, Shiitake, Corn, Pear & Smoked Beef reduction
Pair : Martell Cordon Bleu Intense Heat

Fifth – Chocolate Napoleon with Salted Caramel Ice Cream
Pair : Martell Chanteloup Perspective

Another highlight of the day was definitely the Chocolate Napoleon with Salted Caramel Ice Cream. The bitter sweetness of the dark chocolate produces a striking contrast to balance off the sweetness of the ice cream and nutty crumbles.

Their next event will be the Cheong Fatt Tze’s Feast on 26 April 2017 6pm onwards. Check it out and remember to RSVP!
