Upcoming Theme Parks in Malaysia

Until now, we have visited quite a bit theme parks while traveling such as Disneyland (Orlando, Tokyo, Paris, Shanghai, HK), Universal Studio (Singapore, Osaka, Orlando), Sanrio Puroland Tokyo, SeaWorld Orlando and Everland  Seoul.

Without noticing, it seems Malaysians can expect new theme parks opening soon in Malaysia.

1. 20th Century Fox World

Genting, Malaysia will play host to the world’s first 20th Century Fox theme park and will be replacing the old Genting Outdoor theme park. Get ready to be awe by movie inspired theme parks rides from Alien vs. Predator, Planet of the Apes, Ice Age and more.

While the work construction progress seems slow, it should be ready by end 2017 or early 2018.

2. Movie Animation Park Studios

Asia’s first theme park which focuses on animation, Movie Animation Park Studios features about 40 attractions in 6 thematic zones with numerous unique and fun rides.

Expect the theme rides from the movie production of Hyperspin, Asteroid Attack, Cartoon Factory, Smurf Life and the Wormhole Technologies.

The theme park is located in Meru, Perak and is scheduled to open in July 2017.

3. Ubisoft Theme Park

Video game studio Ubisoft will be the lead attraction in Malaysia’s upcoming video game theme park that will be an indoor complex featuring rides, shows and other attractions related to Ubisoft’s games and characters like Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance, Prince of Persia, Rabbids and more.

The planned 10,000 square meter development will be conveniently located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and is expected to be complete by 2020.

More Theme Parks?

I was also told that Nickelodeon are also looking to set up their own dedicated Nickelodeon Theme Park in South East Asia in either Malaysia or Singapore.

While the we can eagerly anticipates the new theme parks, there are also current local theme parks which are doing pretty well.

1. Legoland Malaysia

Legoland Malaysia Resort features more than 70 hands-on rides, slides, shows and attractions for families and children of all ages with awesome adventures aplenty starting from The Beginning to the most amazing journey through LEGO® Technic, LEGO Kingdoms, Imagination, Land of Adventure, LEGO City and MINILAND.

2. Sunway Lagoon

One of the long established water theme park in Malaysia, Sunway Lagoon features over 90 attractions spread across 88 acres in 6 adventure zones — Water Park, Amusement Park, Wildlife Park, Extreme Park, Scream Park & Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon.

Not only limited to theme park, their Sunway Pyramid is also one of the best mall in Greater KL.

3. Puteri Harbour

Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park in Nusajaya which houses the first Sanrio Hello Kitty Town outside Japan and Thomas and Friends.

The park is suitable for family outings and consists of various walk-through attractions, interactive activities and rides which follow the Hello Kitty theme, while The Little Big Club features lovable children characters such as Bob the Builder, Barney, Angelina Ballerina, Pingu and Thomas and Friends.
